Green Building Policy
As
The McKernon Group has evolved into a full-service design-build
company, we have become ever more mindful of the importance of
respect for
efficient and effective design and construction. We believe that
it is possible for a construction firm to make a difference in
our environment
by building with green products and techniques. Our goal is to
educate our employees and clients in the efficient use of the land,
materials,
alternative sources of energy and the green building process. We
believe in the preservation of water, the improvement of indoor
air quality
and the promotion of resource conservation, and have been doing
so for over 20 years.
Everything that goes into a house potentially has some environmental
cost to make it and some impact regarding how well its going
to serve the house. We ask questions such as: Is it energy efficient?
How long is it going to last and is it environmentally sound?
New Green products are emerging all the time. As they do, we will
review them. Every house is different; every site is different; every
set of circumstances is different. We work to find the best combination
in each case.
In everything we do, we try to live within the environment. We use
the most energy-conserving products, try to situate the house to the
seasons for energy efficiency, and use water savers. Its an
approach we strongly recommend to all of our clients, from both an
efficiency and an economic standpoint. We look at a house as an entire
system with the goal of making its parts work together properly.
