We have three hundred acres bordering the beautiful Maruia river. Eighty acres of flat land is fenced for deer farming and the remainder is hillside covered in virgin beech forest, surrounded by Victoria National Park. The property is currently run as a deer farm, with a few sheep and cattle.
The house is a four-bedroom home on two levels and currently run as a farmstay business. There is a generous two-car garage, wood shed and potting shed, large workshop, hay and implement sheds and a woolshed with a one-stand shearing platform, plus yards and a deer-handling shed.
An earlier owner put several wide tracks into the hills so he could access the bush on horseback, or hunt deer and pigs with ease. These have now matured into beautiful tracks suitable for horse riding or walking through the forest. We use them to show our guests the diverse bird life, streams, waterfalls, hidden lake and splendid views that the property offers.
Originally the property was accessed by a foot bridge, which is still usable. However, the District Council built a vehicle bridge in the mid-seventies.
We love our little bit of paradise and have felt ourselves fortunate to have lived here for the past five years. We are loath to leave this wonderful place but have decided to buy a smaller property half a mile downriver. This move will keep us on this side of the river and in this same beautiful area, which we don't want to leave.
