Brandon, Vermont
About The Community
Brandon
is an historic community of 4000, located about 15 miles
from the college town of Middlebury, and 15 miles from
Rutland on U.S. Route 7 the major north/south highway
in western Vermont and one hour from Burlington, Vermonts
largest city. The town is convenient to mid-Vermonts
major east/west highway Route 4, and less than an hour from
major highways VT I-89 and NY I-87.
Brandon is situated at the foothills of the Green Mountains
and is conveniently located to nearby golf courses, ski areas,
trails, lakes and rivers that offer many outstanding recreational
opportunities. Numerous inns and bed and breakfasts cater
to the steady flow of year round tourists who enjoy the peaceful
and unspoiled beauty of the village and surrounding area.
Downtown Brandon, with all 243 buildings in the core village
listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has preserved
its picturesque historic identity while accommodating recent
vital downtown revitalization. Brandon is approved as a Designated
Downtown by the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation.
Designation makes a town eligible for a number of benefits,
including tax credits, loans, and grants.
A November 20, 2003 Rutland
Herald editorial featured Brandon with the headliner "Brandon
on the Rebound." The editorial focused on the dedicated
townspeople who have worked hard to achieve downtown improvement.
Civic pride, revitalized buildings, and improved cultural
life are some of the outcomes. "Everyone benefits when
Vermont's villages receive the attention of civic-minded
and dedicated individuals who have the will and resources
to carry out complex and costly improvement projects. A
walk through Brandon is proof of it."
The May 2004 issue of Yankee Magazine features Brandon,
Vermont in an article titled "Hidden Jewels", as
one of five "extraordinary places that should only get
better in the years ahead
communities on the rise cities
and towns that are good places to live now and are likely
to be even more desirable a decade from now." Communities
were chosen for their affordable housing, a sense of community,
safety, tranquility without boredom and convenient access
to goods and services.
"Brandon
is a community with a history and a strength and a purpose
a
vibrant and livable town. With the restored buildings and
occupied storefronts we now offer an energized business
community." Brandon Area Chamber of Commerce
